My grandma died last night at the age of, I think, 94 years old. I consider myself lucky to have had any grandparent this late into my life. Grandparents should have a special place in one’s heart. They are the people who spoil you, let you do the things that your parents don’t, make you cakes, darn your socks, and take you out for ice cream, right? This is what they do, isn’t it? Well, that’s what my Dad’s parents did – but they died when I was in high school. My mom’s parents were very different. (more…)

May 3, 2011Last night I turned on the TV for the first time all day, only to find that the news had interrupted what I was expecting to see on TV with these crowds of people rejoicing in the streets. By the looks of it, I assumed that it was leftover celebration from the Royal Wedding. As my husband and I tuned in longer to find out what it was about, we discovered that the rejoicing was over the death of a man. Okay, he’s not just any man, but still a man, a human being, and we as Americans were rejoicing. The death was Osama Bin Laden. (more…)
Digital Age
May 1, 2011This week I was lucky enough to interview two women from Shutterfly. I received an email from their Public Relations firm stating that they had read my examiner.com articles and they would like to know if I was interested in writing about what Shutterfly is doing to protect our children against things like child identity theft, and privacy settings through the use of their share sites. Of course, I jumped on this opportunity, although I wondered if they had read my “About Me” page stating that I “aspire to be a Luddite”? However, considering my love of photography (albeit not digital photography) coupled with my love for writing, I obviously obliged. After several conversations about who I was meeting, where to meet, and what we should talk about, we finally met this past Wednesday at a tea shop around the corner from where I live. (more…)
