Warning: Don’t try this at home.
I knew things were going to be bad, as far as naps go, because he didn’t poop all day yesterday. Whenever he goes a day without pooping, the next day is followed by a day without a nap. Don’t ask me why, but it’s true. He holds all his poop in until about an hour into his nap, and then lets it “rip”, sort of speak. And there’s nothing I can do about it. A couple of times I’ve gone in and caught him with poop, changed his diaper and left victorious thinking, “Ah ha, I’ve done it. Now he’ll sleep.” But instead, he poops again, and I don’t find out until I go in after his two hours are up. (more…)

I may be totally kidding myself, but I feel like I used to sleep – A LOT! Before August came around, I remember sleeping through the night, falling asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow, and sleeping until at least 10am. If someone wanted to do brunch with me on the weekends, I couldn’t make it anywhere until 11am at least. (more…)

Every day August “naps” (whether he chooses to sleep is his decision) from about 12:30pm to at least 2:30pm depending on whether he falls asleep. Some days he’s in there for three hours, some days it’s close to four, but he’s always in there for at least two. So this begs the question, what the hell do I do with my “time off”? Fuck, if I know. (more…)

Sorry about the radio silence, but I have an excuse, sort of….I went to a wedding, by myself, in Cancun and just got back on Sunday night. I say “sort of” an excuse because I left Friday morning and I was back on Sunday night. So I wasn’t gone THAT long, certainly not long enough to make up for the fact that it’s been over a week since I’ve written. Lammo, I know, sorry…. (more…)

I was going through some old photos on Friday looking for a picture of Brent’s old Toyota MR2 to show to August just how cool is Dad was/is. Unfortunately, I didn’t find the picture, so I guess I’ll have to prove it to him some other way. I’m sure I’ll think of something…. (more…)

About two weeks ago someone actually referred to me in an email as a “writer.” It was a simple email to a group of people for a local mom’s group consisting of 4,000 members, and in the middle of that email a woman said, “…and I’ve found a writer to help us out…” – THAT’S ME! No one’s ever called me that before; it felt quite strange, but nice. (more…)

I feel like a broken record, but I thought I would vent some frustration here. As you may recall, I love sleeping. If you don’t recall, then let me share with you the fact that I love sleeping. You know what else I love? August sleeping. I like him sleeping during the night, through the night, during the day, etc. What I don’t like is waking up at 6am, after him falling asleep at 9pm, and then taking no nap. (more…)

Recently I was catching up on my Facebook stalking, and read about how one friend of mine drove over three hours to see her best friend perform her last concert. These two ladies have been friends for literally decades now and it’s hard to maintain that closeness for so long. They’ve had to overcome getting married, having children, living further apart from each other, having jobs, and simply put, growing up. Yet it appears through their Facebook posts, at least, that they are as close as ever. It’s truly a beautiful thing, and I have to admit, I’m jealous. Unfortunately, I have not been as successful in maintaining this kind of closeness with anyone. (more…)
