..until now, that is. People who have seen us put August to bed for the past two plus years (who have kids) have always been impressed as to how we do it with such ease. We should have known better not to get so cocky. It really has been simple. We start about fifteen or so minutes before bedtime (between 7 and 7:30pm). We put on a nighttime diaper, put on his pajamas, brush his teeth, read him two books, sing him a song, and put him in his crib. That’s it folks. After that, he either falls right to sleep, or he talks to his Zebra for anywhere between ten minutes up to an hour. But he never cries. He has always happily gone to bed. (more…)

We’ve had it pretty good…
May 31, 2012More Preschools
May 30, 2012Poor August is really going through the ringer. We have now officially seen four preschools in one week. One of them was not a good fit, one of them I loved but it would take us an hour to get there by bus (since we don’t own a car), and one of them had basically no outdoor space. How is that possible? How do these teachers (or parents for that matter) think it’s a good idea not to let three-year-olds run around outside every day? Granted that place was a French immersion school, but don’t French-speaking kids like to play outside? Just an idea. (more…)
Before 11am
May 27, 2012We have quite the conundrum for tomorrow. A friend of ours is lending us their car for two and a half weeks, so of course, we’d like to go somewhere. Here’s the problem: (more…)
Preschool, the saga continues
May 24, 2012Well, this is getting exciting. First I thought we were only going to have one option for preschool for August this fall : the Catholic preschool down the street. Not that it’s a bad option, it’s just that I’m not really all that comfortable with him coming home singing about God, and potentially telling me that the Jews killed Jesus come Easter time. So, I kept looking. Brent suggested I call the Jewish Community Center, and I did assuming they would have no space (it has a REALLY good rep). They do have space. We’re going to visit it next week, but it’s kind of the same problem as the Catholic preschool, though. It’s not that I don’t want August to learn about religion, because I do, I just don’t want his education to come from someone who is already biased. He’ll get all the bias’ he needs from us. (more…)
You know you’re old when…
May 20, 2012Last night we went out for dinner in a neighborhood that we hadn’t been to in a while. On our way home we walked by a cosmetic store with this sign in the window “Professionally Validated Age-Eraser”, and I said to Brent “You know you’re old when that sign is actually appealing.” That made me think about what are other signs that tell you (or me in this case) that I’m old? Here’s my list below what are yours? (more…)
MIA again
May 18, 2012I guess you’re going to start to think that EVERY time I’m MIA around here it means I’m on vacation, or something? Could be true…we just got back from Kauai. Yep, that’s right, you heard me, Kauai, Hawaii – not Kauai, Idaho (is there a Kauai, Idaho?). We had a great time. Went to a beach almost every day, swam in a pool almost every day, and went running almost every day. August got over his fear of the ocean water and instead developed what I hope to be a life-long love. He better, anyhow, to keep up with his parents. And perhaps best of all, I finished two books in six days. I got my reading Mojo back. Can I get a woot-woot? (more…)
Happy birthday to Me!
May 9, 2012I was trolling Facebook today, and a friend of mine mentioned that she can’t get enough of the song “We are Young” by the group Fun. I wasn’t sure what this song was, but we usually have the same taste in music (she also has an affinity for 80′s music) so I decided to take a listen. Of course, I know the song, and it reminded me of my birthday yesterday. (more…)
Running towards the Finish Line
May 3, 2012Last night when I was lying in bed, not sleeping, I was thinking about how many of my friends have done one of the following things in the past five years: (more…)
